Dependable electric blanket that doesn't shed!

by Melanie L 2009-03-18, 30 people found this review helpful
When I first read the reviews I was a bit weary of buying this, but I decided to give to buy this product anyway and I'm glad I did. I have used many blankets from Sunbeam the past few years and this blanket is one of the best ones I have bought from them. I use the blanket to warm up my bed and sometimes as a mattress cover. It serves both purposes very well. I bought the cranberry version online and an oregano one at walmart. The price offered for this blanket on Amazon is really good compared to the stores. I also got a discount from buying online so I saved even more money.

Now back to the quality of this blanket. One side is herringbone and the other side is fleece. When I washed this blanket I didn't see any shedding or snags afterwards. I think as long as you take decent care of the blanket it should be fine. I'm not sure about the other people that reviewed this item, but mines came in working fine. I've had them since december, so far so good. My only gripe would be the controller, I don't think the coverplate options are really necessary and sometimes the controller dial might moves by mistake. However, I love the preheat and warming options for this controller. The back light that comes up every time you use the control is also very useful. The blanket warms to your body at the touch, so it adjusts to where you are sleeping. You can use half of the blanket and that part will be warmer then the others. I like this feature because the blanket doesn't become overheated or too hot. You can also use the blanket year round because the heat isn't too overwhelming, its just right.

Another good sunbeam blanket purchase

I have purchased a few of these sunbeam blankets now and like to give them as holiday and birthday gifts to my family during the winter. This one I just sent to my cousin in Maryland.

It started when I had family over and gave them a demo of one I had. The prices for these sunbeam models are very reasonable and every time I give one as a present they rave about it.

This one has a cool pattern and a nice looking controller that is digital. Blankets don't feel hot to the touch so it can seem like it isn't working at first but once you wrap yourself up it gets really toasty. I like to turn it out about 15 minutes before I go to bed.

Definitely recommend.

loving it:-)

i have no complaints about this product,it works fantastic at even the lower settings..i was almost afraid to buy it from all the negative reviews, but so far it is the best electric blanket i have ever used, btw the controls were not as pictured which is fine with me cuz i actually think the one sent is simpler and less apt to have issues.also i must admit that there is ZERO shedding.NADA! i hope Sunbeam keeps offering these at this price,it is a GOOD deal..also thanks DealYard, great customer service and tracking.. happy camper in soCal:-)

Don't even bother

I got this three weeks ago. It immediately began shedding tan lint all over anything in the immediate vicinity. This was bad enough, but the blanket died completely after two weeks. I was compelled to go through boxes in my basement until I finally found the Sunbeam electric blanket I bought back in 1985. It still works great and doesn't shed at all. My guess is that Sunbeam has outsourced to some Asian manufacturer, but I'm so disappointed that I don't even want to check the label. This is really the only bad experience I have had with Amazon.

Sunbeam Electric Blanket

This is our 3rd electric blanket and by far the best one! Our last king size was very small - this one is just perfect. It is soft to the touch. The color was perfect. It does NOT shed like some blankets do. And to get a king size for under $100 is a deal. Can't go wrong with this product. (FYI: The only part we did not like was the controls are very topsy turvey because of the cords coming off of them.)

Bad purchase on my part, but I kept the product anyways

This is my first electric blanket since childhood. That said, I am not sure what I was expecting.

Wires: I can feel the wires. In themselves, they don't bother me all that much, but they seem to be spread out in the blanket sparsely.

Heat: It doesn't seem to get or feel warm even when I jack it up to the highest setting. I read the troubleshooting and it said the following: "If the blanket does not seem warm, you should test it by folding a part of the blanket up on itself in a double/triple layer and wait a few minutes. Then put your hand between the folds to see if it is heating properly." I tried this and indeed, it felt warm. So my work around for the lack on heat is to put the electric blanket in between two other blankets to create a sandwich effect. This works perfectly - very comfortable heat. (This might e dangerous since sunbeam tells you not to do it)

* note: Sandwiching the blanket, or covering the electric blanket with another blanket is not recommended per sunbeams instructions. However, this is the only way I can get the blanket to create comfortable warmth.

* note: Sunbeam makes it clear that the blanket will not be warm to the touch unless you are testing it with the sandwich effect. It will note feel hot to the touch like a heating pad - if it does, you have a defective item and you should send it back.

Fabric: I loved the herringbone stitch. It looks nice. However, since I have to cover it with another blanket, this is now a useless consideration.

I also am a big fan of the auto off after 10 hours feature. I am one of those people who fret over "did I leave the iron on this morning?" This auto off puts my mind at ease. Also note that the 10 hour timer resets back to 10 hours every time you change the heat setting. So if you go to bed at 9pm with a heat setting of 4 and wake up at 6am and change the heat setting to 7 to warm up before getting out of bed, the timer starts from 7am, not from 9pm last night.

I have no complaints with the shipper - I got my blanket within two days. I also did not bother returning this since I created my own work around, so there are no issues with customer service.

It's great

The blanket pre-warms the bed - even temperature all night - you can feel the warmth in contrast to some Hi-tech blankets that warm only some parts.
Would buy it again.

Incorrect description of product

I purchased this product thinking it had two controllers IT DOES NOT. The picture shows two controllers the description stated double controllers! IT IS NOT! it only comes with one . So if you need two controllers DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT. IT is misrepresented.

Awesome!

I'm a huge researcher and was not to enthused about the written reviews of electric blankets in general, but I made the decision to order this blanket both twin size and King Size and I can tell you, without a doubt that I am extremely satisfied with this product. I live in the Chicago area, so winters are long and cold. My bedroom is over the garage and is generally around 63 degrees which is too cold to sleep. The King is perfectly sized and I use it on top of my sheets, with my comforter on top of it. I usually set it to 3 to warm the bed and generally move it to Low because it gets so warm. My daughter's room is full of windows and she generally uses a heating tower to keep her room warm. The twin size blanket has eliminated the use of running the heater (huge electric savings) and she loves her blanket as well. I would recommnend this product to anyone without hesitation.
