Stopped Working

by K. Quezada 2008-03-07, 24 people found this review helpful
Well, like the other reveiwers I will praise this blanket up and down upmthe material used and for the unobtrusive wiring; but it stopped working after only a few months. It shorted out(which seems oddly dangerous for the 'Worlds Safest' eclectric blanket)and I am now using it as a plain blanket. I've gone back to my old sunbeam, which though old, linty, and full of uncomfortable wiring, is dependable.

Soft & Snuggly

This is a wonderful electric blanket. The heat is very even and the wires are small and flexible. We had a Sunbeam before it does not even compare to this blanket.

a real lemon

by Glenn D. Taylor 2008-01-13, 34 people found this review helpful
Either I got a real lemon, or all these reviews were written by people at
Surefit. The wires pulled out the first time I changed my sheets. I'm talking about the wires from the blanket to the blanket outlet! Very shoddy design. I've had at least 5 Sunbeam blankets over 30 years and never had that happen. It doesn't get very hot, either. I guess that's why it is "the world's safest blanket". The only reason I didn't give it a one is the material is very soft and fleece-like. But I could've gotten that without the electricity at Walmart for $20. Don't buy!

It's warm.

These are nice. We got 2, one for each bed. We both love them. The hard part is if the house is cold and you must get out from under these. The cold can be hard to take after being so nice and warm. Sleeping in a cold house is so easy with these. Turn down the thermostat and save some dollars!

Disappointed

by Doug Van Wyngarden 2008-04-28, 24 people found this review helpful
I purchased this as a Christmas present for my wife. After turning it on to High and letting it "warm up" for the recommended 30 minutes, my wife excitedly jumped under the blanket only to reappear and ask deflatingly, "Is it on?" It is then that we noticed the sticker on the manual that said "This blanket will not feel warm to the touch." They weren't kidding. No wonder it's "The world's safest warming blanket," IT DOESN'T GET WARM! It feels about the same as a blanket that's been warmed by body heat for 30 minutes. Yeah, that might be good enough if we lived in Texas, but here in Chicago that's just not going to cut it. Eventually we accepted the fact that I paid $80 for a glorified blanket that is tethered to an outlet...that is until it stopped working this weekend, a mere 4 months after buying it. Now when you turn it on, the power button will light up for 3 seconds and then promptly turn off. Buyer Beware.

Update: Here is the phone number for Perfect Fit Industries customer service: 1-800-299-1378.
Good luck speaking to an actual person. Thus far I've only been able to contact their answering machine.
Update #2: I did receive a call back the next day from Rhonda who was actually very helpful. There are sending out a new power supply to hopefully resolve the issue.

Loved it....and then it quit working

by Daisy 2009-01-25, 10 people found this review helpful
I bought this blanket a year ago, and one side just quit working. The controller will light for a few seconds, and then go off. I will be contacting the company on Monday to see about a replacement. Pity...loved the blanket until that moment. It is very comfortable, warms nicely and in our brutal Minnesota winters, is downright comforting. I see a couple of other reviews similar to mine. Will update this if the company provides and adequate remedy.

Great blanket so far!

by JG 2008-05-24, 10 people found this review helpful
We've used our queen size blanket all this winter and have been enjoying it. It provides a nice even heat and doesn't get too hot. I've accidentally fallen asleep before turning it off (we usually just use it to warm up the bed prior to getting in and until ready to doze off) and haven't woken up in a pool of sweat, just nice & toasty. Whenever I did that with our old Sunbeam blankets, I'd wake up a couple hours later feeling like I was being roasted alive.

The blanket itself is warm even without the heat being turned on and pretty soft. I was a little put off by the precise washing instructions it came with (i.e. wash for X minutes, then rinse for X minutes only...) as I'm a busy mom who doesn't have time to sit by the washer with a timer! So needless to say it's been tossed in the washer for a normal run through (gentle cycle) and in the dryer on low and it's come out fine each time. The blanket hasn't shrunk at all and doesn't seem to be pilling up (getting those little balls of fuzz all over it) like many blankets do.

I will say that the control units seem a little on the cheap side considering the cost of the blanket. I also wish the blanket had longer sides--it does fit our standard queen mattress, but if we had one of those super thick mattresses there wouldn't be much coverage on the sides. Overall though, I think it is a pretty good blanket and would recommend it.

Wonderful blanket at a great price!

I used to have an electric blanket back in the days of the thick wires with stiff, hard spots. And I threw it away because I was afraid of it starting a fire after I had it for several years. So when I started researching electric blankets, I was thrilled to find that the technology had improved! I bought a king size blanket from Lands' End for $225 and wasn't that thrilled. I didn't like the color and I definitely didn't like the price. So I returned the blanket and went back to researching. I was attracted to this blanket because it was called "the World's Safest". Exactly what I wanted to hear! And the price of $115 sent me over the edge! How fabulous!

I put it on the bed and was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't heavy like the old style electric blankets. And the material was very cozy -- microfleece. I removed the velour-type blanket I had on the bed when I added this one and didn't notice a weight difference when sleeping. Also, without the blanket even turned on it's much warmer than my velour-type blanket. It feels like it holds your body heat in better. So the New England temps dropped this past week and I've had it on every night. Just set it on HI for about 30 minutes before going to bed and you'll find it warm and cozy. You turn it down to one of the lower settings while you sleep and it keeps the cozy warmth going without making you too hot. A perfect blanket for winter! I love it! I highly recommend this to anyone searching for a great blanket and a great price. I can't imagine you could do any better than this option! Stay warm!

Something's wrong here!

by L. Wick 2008-01-19, 34 people found this review helpful
I bought this for my dad, who tends to freeze when he stays at our house. Based on all the glowing reviews, oddly written by folks with remarkably similar vocabularies, temperaments and enthusiasms, I expected something exceedingly fine. But this is a very ordinary blanket, works ok, and seems much like others we've owned. So what gives? It costs more than others and seems to have a fan club - but did all these reviewers collaborate on their reviews, or are they all the same person? Most strange. If all these reviews were planted by the maker, we ought to just avoid their products on principle.

Love Hate Relationship

by J. Everhart 2009-01-21, 5 people found this review helpful
I bought this blanket in November 2008 and love the way it feels. It warms differently than electric blankets I have used before, but again I was thrilled with it. Last night I attempted to turn it on and the control did not work any longer. The other control works (my husbands side - never uses). I am so disappointed. Now trying to find out what to do to return it or get another. Although I think I will likely have another problem with the control. Seems like I read that someone else had had this issue. Just be careful with this one.
